Are you passionate about environmental issues? Are you looking for a career that utilizes your grants/financial/budgets experience in service of a world where people and our planet thrive? Are you committed to centering equity and justice in your work? Apply today to be EarthLab’s next Grants and Financial Manager!
Who we are
EarthLab is a visionary institute that pushes boundaries to address our most pressing environmental challenges, with a focus on climate justice and action. We’ve got big ideas for the future, which you can learn more about in our strategic plan. This will give you a solid understanding of our vision, mission and goals for the next several years. We think it’s worth perusing to help you better understand what we do.
Still with us? Great! Now here’s what we’re looking for:
We’re hiring for a full-time Grants and Financial Manager to join our Finance and Administration team. EarthLab has complex funding with over 50 sponsored awards (grants), state funding, private foundation funding, and individual support. These funds support the projects of EarthLab’s member organizations and EarthLab central operations. The Grants and Financial Manager will manage grant and non-grant funding sources and assist the team with business processes related to administrative operations for EarthLab, reporting to the Administrator.
Now a little bit about you
In order to thrive in this unique role, we’re hoping that you enjoy thinking through complex management systems—from the minute details of making sure our contracts are correct, to the overarching big-picture vision to help us develop sustainable policies and procedures for our organization as a whole.
Reporting to our Administrator, you’ll spend about 70% of your time on financial management: managing grants and contracts from pre-award through closing, creating standardized monthly reporting, representing EarthLab with the Office of Sponsored Programs and Grants and Contract Accounting, and serving as the technical expert on grant and financial administration for our principal investigators and research staff.
You’ll also maintain financial modeling for all EarthLab resources, partner with leadership on long-term planning, and take on special projects like designing comprehensive tracking systems for all our awarded grants and contracts.
We’re looking for someone with a bachelor’s degree in business, financial management, or a related field, plus at least three years’ experience in financial management (or equivalent education/experience). You should have experience with pre- and post-award budget development, advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills, exquisite attention to detail, and a strong orientation toward excellent customer service.
Bonus points if you have familiarity with UW budgetary policies and systems like Workday and SAGE, experience in an academic setting, or demonstrated experience innovating administrative systems.
The culture you’ll be joining
We acknowledge the systemic racism that exists in the environmental sector and within environmentalism at large. At EarthLab, we believe every member on our team enriches our diversity by exposing us to a broad range of ways to understand and engage with the world, identify challenges, and to discover, design and deliver solutions. If you are committed to helping us create an equitable, diverse and inclusive work environment where all voices are considered and valued, we want to hear from you.
