2025

EarthLab summer internships offer a robust, cohort-based experience for University of Washington undergraduate students. Undergraduate students enrolled in a degree-granting program at any UW campus (Bothell, Seattle, or Tacoma) as of Spring Quarter 2025 from a variety of disciplines are encouraged to apply. Timeline for 2025 Summer Internships 

January 6: Internship applications open. 

February 6: Applications due by 5 p.m. 

February – March: Application review + interview process*

*Note: Interview time slots may go through UW spring break 

Mid/late March: 2025 Internship cohort finalized.

June 23 – August 22: 9-week internship period, including required weekly cohort meetings every Monday from 9 am – 1 pm. 

August 22: Intern Showcase and student presentations.

Meet the Cohort 4 Interns

Cyril Clement, Climate and Mutual Aid Intern

B.Sc. Environmental Studies and Medical Anthropology double major and Data Science minor, UW Seattle

CyrilCyril (he/him) is an undergraduate student at the University of Washington, Seattle, majoring in Environmental Studies and Medical Anthropology, with a minor in Data Science. His academic interests lie in the intersection of climate change and public health. Research has been a central part of his undergraduate journey, with projects covering topics such as health insurance access, community farms, and green stormwater infrastructure. Through his further studies and career, he plans to work closely with communities to uncover ways to disrupt the policies and systemic mechanisms that contribute to environmental injustice. Outside of school, he enjoys hiking, playing soccer, and exploring Seattle. Cyril is excited to be working with the Climate Impacts Group as the Climate and Mutual Aid Intern.

Angelina Durbin, Climate Health Risk Tool Communications Intern

B.Sc. Environmental Public Health major and Nutrition minor, UW Seattle

AngelinaAngelina (she/her) is a rising third-year majoring in Environmental Public Health and minoring in Nutrition at the University of Washington, Seattle. During her time at UW, she has served as a staff member at the UW Food Pantry and has been involved in several sustainability-oriented clubs on campus. These experiences have solidified her interest in improving education, safety, and food security in overburdened communities facing the most severe impacts of climate change. She is excited for the opportunity to work as the CHaRT Communications Intern this summer to support CHanGE’s mission of increasing awareness of the environmental risks associated with climate change. Angelina hopes to engage communities through tailored education and actionable solutions that resonate with their lived experiences. In her spare time, she enjoys thrifting, going on walks, trying new restaurants, scrapbooking, and having picnics with friends!

Yuri Yang, Climate Health Risk Tool Web Interface Intern

B.Sc. Human Centered Design Engineering major and Business Administration minor, UW Seattle

YuriYuri (she/her) is a third-year undergraduate majoring in Human Centered Design Engineering with a minor in Business Administration. She is passionate about designing inclusive solutions and researching ways to bridge gaps faced by marginalized communities, with a strong belief in using technology for social good. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing tennis, practicing hot yoga, and exploring new board games. Yuri is excited to join EarthLab and the Center for Health and the Global Environment (CHanGE) as a Web Interface Intern! Through this internship, she looks forward to applying her user-centered design skills to improve CHanGE’s CHaRT tool and make climate and health risk information more accessible and actionable for diverse users.

Isa Saiz, Collaborative Leadership Intern

B.Sc. Environmental Science major, UW Seattle

Isa Saiz (she/her) is a sophomore studying Environmental Science with a focus in restoration ecology and environmental horticulture. This summer she is very excited to work with the Puget Sound Institute as the Collaborative Leadership Intern for Earthlab. Isa is passionate about working with underserved and specifically Tribal communities on community led restoration projects by strengthening systems and policies that have sustained lands protected by Indigenous people for generations. With the current movement of climate adaptation Isa wants to make sure that what is implemented for communities is done right and does not lead to maladaptation but most importantly that what is implemented feeds back into the community as well. In her spare time Isa enjoys baking and boxing.

MJ Powers, Needs Assessment & Engagement Intern

B.A. Education, Communities and Organizations major and Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies minor, UW Seattle

MJMJ Powers (she/her) is a recent graduate from the University of Washington Seattle with a major in Education, Communities and Organizations and a minor in Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies. Through her interdisciplinary studies, MJ is passionate about creating educational spaces that are welcoming and equitable for all and integrating social justice into pedagogy. Her coursework has shown her how climate change most impacts marginalized communities and how much is at stake when we discuss climate justice. MJ appreciates the natural world around her through hiking with friends and spending time at local parks and beaches–she definitely will be spending her off-hours this summer floating around Lake Washington!

Jacqueline Wu, Conservation Science Intern 

B.Sc. Environmental Science & Terrestrial Resource Management, B.A. Geography: Data Science, B.S. Informatics: Data Science triple major, UW Seattle

JacquelineJacqueline Wu (she/her) is a senior at the University of Washington Seattle, triple majoring in Environmental Science & Terrestrial Resource Management, Geography: Data Science, and Informatics: Data Science. She is passionate about using data and interdisciplinary methods to address environmental challenges, with interests in sustainability, silviculture, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies. Jacqueline has conducted research on environmental exposure pathways and currently leads the design subteam for UW’s 2025 iGEM project, which focuses on developing protein-based inhibitors to combat antibiotic resistance. She is excited to support conservation science at The Nature Conservancy and contribute to creating real-world environmental solutions. In her free time, she enjoys photographing, exploring the outdoors, and traveling.

Mia Ferrero-Lampron, Conservation Science Intern

B.Sc. in Environmental Science and Terrestrial Resource Management major, Data Science Minor, UW Seattle

Mia Ferrero-LampronMia Ferrero-Lampron (she/her) is an upcoming junior at the University of Washington pursuing a degree in Environmental Science and Terrestrial Resource Management, with a Data Science minor. She is excited to be joining The Nature Conservancy this summer as a Conservation Science Intern. Mia grew up in Colorado, where she developed a love for spending time outdoors hiking, camping, and exploring mountain ecosystems. Her academic experiences at UW—paired with her work in renewable energy development—have fueled her passion for sustainable land use, environmental data analysis, and community-focused conservation. Through this internship, Mia looks forward to applying her academic skills while deepening her understanding of restoration practices in the Pacific Northwest. In her free time, she enjoys running, snowboarding, and exploring new places!

Vicky Ye, Flood Warning Analysis Intern

B.Sc. Computer Science major and Statistics and DXARTS double minor, UW Seattle

VickyVicky Ye (she/her) is a rising sophomore at the University of Washington, pursuing a degree in Computer Science with a minor in Statistics and DXARTS. She is deeply passionate about harnessing the power of Machine Learning/AI to tackle real-world challenges, with a particular focus on issues that impact the environment and marginalised communities. At UW, Vicky is actively involved in outreach programs like STEM ASB, where she works to promote equitable K-12 STEM education in low-income regions in Washington that are lacking STEM resources. Vicky is thrilled to be applying her skills as a Flood Warning Analysis Intern, addressing critical issues like flood forecasting and warning systems, which are challenges that affect millions of people all around the globe. When she’s not working or studying, Vicky enjoys nature walks, playing the piano, skiing, video games, and the occasional spontaneous adventure. She’s also learning Spanish and French on Duolingo! Vicky is excited to continue growing both professionally and personally, and she looks forward to contributing to innovative solutions that make a meaningful impact.

Kaper Greenfield, Invasive Species & Climate Change Network Intern

B.Sc. Computer Science major and Statistics and DXARTS double minor, UW Seattle

Headshot missingKaper is a current senior at the University of Washington, majoring in Biology and minoring in Arctic Studies. This summer, she is excited to work with EarthLab in partnership with the Northwest Regional Invasive Species & Climate Change Network. Having witnessed rapid changes to local ecosystems growing up, Kaper is passionate about community-based solutions to environmental justice issues. After graduating, she hopes to continue to work on efforts to build climate resilience in the Pacific Northwest. In her free time, Kaper enjoys birding, reading, and exploring around Seattle!

Sabrina Sandberg, Marine Ecosystem Patterns Intern

B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering major, UW Seattle

SabrinaSabrina Sandberg (She/Her) comes to EarthLab from the University of Washington Seattle, where she is majoring in Environmental Engineering. As the Marine Ecosystem Patterns Intern, Sabrina brings over a decade of experience living and working on the waters of the Pacific coast. Now living aboard a boat in the Puget Sound, observing the marine environment is a part of her everyday life. Her time working alongside nature guides in Alaska was especially formative, deepening her appreciation for the complexity of marine ecosystems. Sabrina is passionate about environmental justice and equity, and is excited to contribute to research that advances more inclusive and sustainable approaches to environmental science.

Solveig Smith, Nature and Health Science Communication Intern

B.Sc. Public Health-Global Health major & Law, Societies, and Justice minor, UW Seattle

Solveig

Solveig Smith (she/her) is an upcoming senior at the University of Washington Seattle studying Public Health-Global Health with a minor in Law, Societies, and Justice. She is looking forward to spending her summer at EarthLab working at the Center for Nature & Health. She is curious about the intersections around environmental and human health and exploring ways to communicate scientific research in a more accessible way. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, she is enthusiastic about fostering connection between people and the outdoors. She is an aspiring public health practitioner who is passionate about health equity and engaging with communities to implement tangible solutions to a wide array of public health problems.   

In her free time, Solveig enjoys spending time in nature, dance, reading, and going to concerts with friends.

Gavin Graham, NW CASC Science Communications Intern

B.A. Environmental Studies major and Business Administration minor, UW Seattle

GavinGavin Graham is an incoming Junior with a Major in Environmental Studies and a minor in Business Administration. Growing up in Marin County, CA, he has a deep appreciation for the natural world and preserving its beauty. He hopes to be able to communicate environmental issues effectively to all audiences in diverse ways to create greater awareness and action. Ultimately, he would like to intersect sustainability and business to create a more sustainable society by helping companies adopt sustainable practices, not just because it’s the morally right thing to do, but because it makes economic sense. He hopes to contribute to a future where profitability aligns with environmental responsibility.

Rachel Clagett, Ocean Literacy Intern

B.Sc. Environmental Engineering Major, UW Seattle 

RachelRachel Clagett (she/her) is a rising Junior studying Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington. Growing up in an environmentally conscious Seattle, she realized her passion for environmental justice during her time at UW. With a background in social justice, Rachel is particularly interested in the intersection of environmental and social justice issues. She is excited to work with WOAC to enhance lesson plans to increase ocean literacy around ocean acidification. During her internship, she looks forward to becoming familiar with the NANOOS Visualization System and exploring how her future work in water treatment and management can help prevent ocean acidification. In her free time, Rachel enjoys reading, playing board games, embroidery, and walking around her neighborhood.

Ella Gebers, Storytelling for Social Change Intern

B.Sc. Human Centered Design and Engineering major, Environmental Studies minor, UW Seattle

EllaElla Gebers (She/her) is an upcoming junior studying Human Centered Design and Engineering with a minor in Environmental Studies at the University of Washington. She has always been passionate about the environment, and during her time at UW, she has become interested in exploring the connection between people and nature. She is passionate about creating accessible digital media and compelling stories to foster change and understanding. In her free time she enjoys exploring, rugby, playing the cello, and reading. She is excited to join the EarthLab internship cohort to contribute to community centered narratives and make science more accessible.
